There’s a First Time for Everything: Fighting Irish Clinch Spot in 2020 ACC Championship Game

News broke today out of the ACC that Notre Dame’s regular season will end after its home game vs Syracuse. With this news, Notre Dame clinched one of the spots in the ACC Championship on December 19th. The match-up will be a rematch with Clemson, who’s regular season will also end Saturday. The ACC wanted to give both teams a week off before the Championship game. I support the move by the ACC; yes, it benefits the Irish, but Clemson did not have a game scheduled on December 12th. It only seems fair that both teams have bye week before the rematch.

This college football season has been a crazy one because of Covid, so the fact that we actually got football is awesome…and it’s just extra icing on the cake that Notre Dame is heading to the ACC Championship game. I love that the university decided to join the ACC for one year, because it’s something different in a season that has been anything but normal. That being said, I also am assuming that only the Irish faithful are happy to see the Irish in the championship game. All the Notre Dame haters say is that the “Irish need to join a conference” (that blog will drop at a later date). So, the fact that for the one year that Notre Dame football will be in the ACC, they also will have a shot at the title…must drive every Notre Dame hater mad and I, for one, love it.

The Irish will get to face a healthy Clemson team. They will get a chance to prove that beating them back in early November wasn’t a fluke. The Irish have gotten better and better as the season has gone on. This is not the same Notre Dame team that gets dog walked in big games. I fully expect the Irish to be up to the challenge on December 19th.
