Roster Updates and Coaching Changes – Breaking Down the Wild Week that was for Notre Dame Football

Every year college football teams going into a transition phase after the season. Players graduate, some leave early for the NFL and others elect to come back for a final year of eligibility. In the current college football landscape, you also add the Wild West that is the transfer portal. Rules have changed to benefit the student athlete when it comes to transferring. 2021 Notre Dame Season Review: From MVP to Best Play of the Year

2021 Notre Dame Season Review: From MVP to Best Play of the Year

The 2021 Notre Dame football season is over, and boy what a season it was. There were extreme highs and some very bad lows. It was anything but dull, and one that I will always remember. From MVP to best play of the year and everything in between, here are my picks. MVP: Kyren Williams RB – 1,002 Rush Yards, 14 TDs. 359 receiving yards, 3 TDs. Hard to imagine what this season would look like without Williams, as he…

Storylines? Oh, There are Lots of Storylines Heading into the Fiesta Bowl

Storylines? Oh, There are Lots of Storylines Heading into the Fiesta Bowl

Notre Dame played Stanford a little over a month ago. That month has felt like a lifetime for Notre Dame fans everywhere. Since that last game of the season, Notre Dame has lost its all-time winningest coach, replaced him and still almost made the playoffs. The Fighting Irish were the first team out of the playoffs, which landed them in a New Years Six Bowl Game. Not bad for a team that, coming into the season, was considered in a…

Irish Goodbye, Brian Kelly off to LSU.

Irish Goodbye, Brian Kelly off to LSU.

I was about to write a game recap for the Stanford game, but some other news from South Bend trumped that. Yup. That tweet isn’t fake. From what it sounds like, Brian Kelly is heading to LSU. He’s leaving as the winningest coach in Notre Dame history, with a team that still has a great shot at reaching the playoffs this year. I have two guesses as to why he would leave. First (and big one), money talks. He wasn’t…

Vegas Baby!!! Notre Dame Heads to Sin City to Take on BYU Next Season

Vegas Baby!!! Notre Dame Heads to Sin City to Take on BYU Next Season

News broke a little over month ago that Notre Dame would be taking on BYU in Las Vegas during the 2022 season in another installment of the Shamrock Series. This week we officially got word on the date of that game. It’ll be week 5 of the season on October 8th. There is good and bad about the Shamrock Series. The good part about the Shamrock Series (and the part I love) is that it takes the Irish to different…

What to Expect from 4th and 1rish During the 2021 Notre Dame Football Season

What to Expect from 4th and 1rish During the 2021 Notre Dame Football Season

I started this blog after the 2020 Notre Dame season had started. I had thought about blogging about the Fighting Irish for a while, and sitting around during Covid gave me the time. So, the 2021 season will be the first full season that the 4th and 1rish blog will be around. I plan on keeping the same type of blogs from last year and adding more as the season goes on. Here is the plan for weekly blogs: We…

The House that Rockne Built empty no more, Full capacity for upcoming season.

Today was my first day back to work in 6 days after getting married, I opened my laptop to over 200 new emails. The day ahead looked like a long grind until I opened twitter and saw the above tweet. WHAT A DAY! Notre Dame Stadium will be full for the home opener on September 11th vs mighty Toledo. In the article full capacity is the only thing that is a go right now, Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick said “In…

Fighting Irish to take on The Hoosiers…in 2030.

The Hoosiers head to South Bend on August 31st, 2030; yup, 9 years away. The Fighting Irish will then travel to Bloomington the following season on September 27th. Notre Dame and Indiana have played each other 25 times, with the recored being 22 and 3 in favor of the Fighting Irish. The…

Fighting Irish Back in the College Football Playoffs, Will Take on the Tide

Fighting Irish Back in the College Football Playoffs, Will Take on the Tide

Notre Dame landed a spot in the College Football Playoffs for the second time in 3 years. The Fighting Irish come in as the #4 team and will play #1 Alabama in the Rose Bowl on New Years day, a rematch of the 2013 BCS Championship Game (yes, we don’t need to talk about the outcome of that game). It is a bucket list goal of mine to watch the Irish play in the Rose Bowl, but sadly there are…

Irish Lose Defensive Coordinator; Clark Lea to become the Next Head Coach at Vanderbilt

Irish Lose Defensive Coordinator; Clark Lea to become the Next Head Coach at Vanderbilt

As reported by Pete Sampson, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Clark Lea will be the next head coach at Vanderbilt. It’s a great hire for Vanderbilt, but a big loss for Notre Dame. This really doesn’t come as a surprise though, as Clark is a native of Nashville and played for Vanderbilt as a fullback from 2002 to 2004. During his time as defensive coordinator for the Irish, Clark has turned out some outstanding defenses. This year has been no exception…
